Greenhouse / Picker
Role: The ideal candidate must ensure that all perishable products grown are handled, picked, and processed according to Martinez & Sons standards. Our goal is to meet customer needs efficiently and effectively.
Full time Shifts: Monday - Friday, 6 am to 5 pm. Saturday 6 am to 12 pm
Primary Responsibilities
Follow the Company standards set for time limits and required quality.
Ability to work flexible hours when needed to finish work in periods of fast growth and high production.
Follow safe equipment operating procedures, only after proper training.
Use all equipment and tools with care and respect. Report issues to Supervisor.
Follow proper hygiene and cleanliness protocols under applicable Food Safety guidelines.
Follow Company rules and regulations, Food Safety guidelines, and Health & Safety policies.
Report any pests and disease to Supervisor including type, location, and infestation levels.
Punctuality is a must including the proper use of our “time” recording system during lunch and breaks.
Education/Background Requirements:
Experience in a greenhouse or working with produce preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Must be at least 18 years old.
Self-motivated, positive attitude, work independently and/or in a team setting.
Ability to take continuous direction.
Ability to make changes as needed without advance notice.
Working Conditions
Greenhouse environments have variable and fluctuating temperatures based on the season. Temperatures are high in the summer months.
Fast-paced environment working on and around powered industrial equipment and background noise approaching 70 decibels.
Must be able to work around bees.
Hours and schedules fluctuate subject to crop demands.
Packhouse
After harvesting, our packhouse workers spring into action. As part of a packhouse team, you will pack produce into the proper containers, correctly label the product, and ensure that the final packaging meets company quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Pack product into shipping containers. Seal and label correctly.
Understand produce grade standards and maturity characteristics.
Handle produce carefully to prevent bruising or damage to the product.
Meet packing productivity standards as set out by the Supervisor.
Cleaning and sanitization of the pack room.
Meet packing standards set out by the Grading Supervisor, Line Leads or Quality Control.
Follow Food Safety, Occupational Health and Safety and Operations policies and procedures.
Identify safety concerns and communicate with Supervisor accordingly.
Any other tasks as directed by Supervisors.
Education/Background Requirements
Experience working with produce or in a warehouse environment preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to learn and retain a wealth of product and customer knowledge.
Ability to make critical decisions quickly and repeatedly.
Manual dexterity: ability to work with hands for the entire shift.
Must be able to stand/walk for an extended amount of time.
Good motor skills and eye/hand coordination.
Working Conditions
Ability to work in varying temperatures from cool to hot.
Must be capable of regularly lifting 30 lbs.
Position requires standing and walking for the entire shift.
